Textbook-like layout for the course e-manual
The newly revised C-1 eCourse incorporates some changes to make it easier for the students to use, and therefore easier to understand. First and foremost, the technical content has been updated to reflect everything that has been learned in the three years that the course has been offered. There are new exercises at the end of each chapter, replacing the old "self-study" style questions. Second, there is a more streamlined approach to the information presented, including incorporating the appendices into the actual chapters, eliminating the need to page back and forth during your studies. Third, the course manual has a more textbook-like layout, where pictures are included inline in the text rather than at the end of the chapters. This, we hope, will lead to a more user-friendly experience for students, enabling them to quickly and successfully complete their online training.
Course Description
The online course provides a practical and comprehensive overview
for individuals who are new to the protective coatings industry
as well as those needing a review of the fundamentals of corrosion
and the use of coatings as a protective mechanism.
How is it taught?
The C-1 eCourse is perfect for those students who need to take the class but are unable to attend a regular offering. This distance learning course features the same nine units that are used in the on-site classes. Each unit has been converted into Web-friendly Portable Document Format (PDF), including text and slides, that registered students can download from a secure SSPC Web site.
How often is the course offered?
Currently, the eCourse is given twice a year, with two 20-week
(five month) sessions. Students have up to two weeks to complete
each unit, including the quizzes, and are permitted to accelerate
their progress if they already have a firm grasp of the material
and have submitted a completed quiz from the previous unit.
Final Exam
In order to qualify for the final exam, students
must complete all course materials and assignments by the
end of the 20-week semester. At the end of the semester, a
proctored final exam will be given in the United States at
a location that is convenient to most students. International
students or those who are unable to travel to the US test
site will need to make special arrangements with SSPC to take
the exam.
